How AI will Provide Saudi Arabia’s Health Sector Billions of Dollars in Economic Value

Artificial intelligence is driving a major revolution in Saudi Arabia’s health technology industry, with considerable potential benefits for both operations and the economy.

According to a McKinsey & Co. estimate, artificial intelligence (AI) might bring in $15–$27 billion in economic value for the medical industry in the Kingdom by 2030. Up to 40% of healthcare tasks can be automated to do this, increasing productivity and decreasing the amount of manual labor required. These developments are in line with Saudi Arabia’s goal of becoming a regional center of technology, with the medical field being one of the main industries gaining from this digital shift.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has highlighted the potential of this revolution, and is quoted as saying: “We are living in a time of scientific innovation, unprecedented technology, and unlimited growth prospects. These new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, if used optimally, can spare the world many disadvantages and can bring enormous benefits to the world.”

Surgeon and co-founder of Proximie, a health tech platform, Nadine Hachach-Haram, recently discussed her thoughts on the revolutionary uses of AI in an interview with Arab News. According to her, this might be applied to improve service effectiveness, communication, and patient safety throughout the Saudi Arabian healthcare system.

“AI use allows the automation of necessary but time-consuming and tedious administrative processes,” Hachach-Haram said. “AI implementation will help minimize errors, optimize efficiency, revolutionize patient care, and improve global healthcare accessibility.”

She also emphasized the government’s strategy for promoting AI, which includes programs like the National Data Bank and cloud computing infrastructure to facilitate cooperation between the public and commercial sectors.
According to Hachach-Haram, as the Kingdom adopts AI and machine learning in line with the Saudi Health Sector Transformation Program, these technologies are transforming patient outcomes and the effectiveness of healthcare services.
